Mirjana attended University of Zagreb, Wood Technology and Furniture Design, exploring other diverse outlets for her fertile and creative mind.
In 1992, Mirjana and her husband moved to the United States, where their three children were eventually born.
In an effort to create unique and original art pieces, Mirjana sought materials that spoke to her artistic ethos: For example, she chose to work with burlap (rather than canvas), mainly because of its natural look, its innate organic roughness and its receptivity to specific techniques she utilizes. Combining these materials with painted backgrounds, fabric cutouts, various yarns, threads and wood beads gave Mirjana’s work a dimensionality she had long sought: She had achieved an expressive depth of in her work that truly reflected her artistic sensibility. Mirjana’s inspiration emerged from the inexhaustible source of beauty she found around her - the flowers and plants of her current environment, as well as the vivid memories she carries of her naturally diverse homeland.
Today, as her work enters a new evolutionary state, Mirjana looks forward to incorporating several other art techniques, combining them within the context of her distinctive vision to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
